First Missionary Baptist Church of Pass Christian

An Ordinary Church Performing Extraordinary Ministries

Hurricane Katrina was the costliest and one of the deadliest hurricanes in the history of the United States.  It is possible that Katrina was the largest hurricane of its strength to approach the United States in recorded history; its sheer size caused devastation over 100 miles from the center. The storm surge caused major or catastrophic damage along the coastlines of Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama.  Severe wind damage was reported well inland.

The First Missionary Baptist Church of Pass Christian, MS was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina on August 29, 2005.  Inspection reports provided by independent architects revealed severe structural damage to the building.  The severe structural damage caused by Hurricane Katrina resulted in demolition of the church building on August 23, 2006. The First Missionary Baptist Church of Pass Christian is the only church on the Mississippi Gulf Coast that has not been re-built after Hurricane Katrina.

The decision to have the church demolished was not an easy one to make, since our church has been a part of the community since 1870.

We seek your prayer and support to help us rebuild our church. We realize this project is a huge endeavor, but with your prayer and financial support, we know this can be done. Our God is in the impossibility business, and we have that kind of faith that sees the answer.

May God bless you and keep watch over your soul,

Reverend Willie E. Holt and

Members of F.M.B.C. of Pass Christian
